Industrial Products Network Update for Friday, July 19, 2024

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
BNSF operating teams continue to focus on generating improved service performance following a derailment on our Southern Transcon in Woodward, Oklahoma, approximately 140 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. As reported last Thursday, both main tracks were affected. BNSF quickly implemented around-the-clock resources to restore service and fluidity through the region, and both main tracks were reopened on Saturday.

Additionally, storms producing tornadoes and high winds in the Midwest caused operational challenges on the eastern end of our Southern Transcon this week. However, thanks to the responsiveness of our crews, service has normalized in the region, and we expect to see continued service improvement and resiliency moving forward.

Regarding key service metrics, average car velocity has improved nearly three percent from last week and remains steady with June. Terminal dwell also improved versus the prior week and month. Our local service compliance measure is improving and remains level with June. Total volume rebounded from the Independence Day holiday week, increasing 12 percent.

As communicated this morning, BNSF was not impacted by the widespread Microsoft outage affecting many businesses, including some of the other railroads. We will remain in contact with Microsoft and the other railroads until the situation is resolved. SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
High winds and flash flooding are expected across portions of the Central Plains and the Southwest as scattered thunderstorms move across the region tonight and through the weekend. BNSF will continue to monitor conditions, especially in flood-prone areas of the network. Hot and dry conditions will remain in place across much of the BNSF network, with some locations across the West likely to experience record-high temperatures. BNSF teams will continue to closely monitor track and infrastructure for any heat-related impacts and take the appropriate precautions to operate safely.
